Superb antique rugs and carpets originated from a broad spectrum of rug weaving centers across the globe, from Marakkesh to Mirzapour, Tel Aviv to Tabriz, Damascus to Donegal. Traveling along ancient trade routes from east to west, displacing and resettling both rug weavers and merchants, the primeval art of carpet weaving evolved. Remaining relatively unchanged since its origins, the basic mechanics of rug and carpet weaving are fairly simple; however the breadth, range and pure artistry of the resulting textiles are often astonishing. Antique and vintage rugs and carpets have a myriad of personality, along with character, that can dramatically change the look and feel of any interior. Truly, “the soul of the apartment is the carpet.”
